Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of ELT 102-350, students will be able to:

- 1 Explain semiconductor physics including atomic structure, doping, and P-N junction behavior to analyze diode operation in forward and reverse bias conditions.
- 2 Design and analyze diode circuits including half-wave and full-wave rectifiers, capacitive filter networks, and voltage regulator stages, and measure waveforms using an oscilloscope.
- 3 Describe the operating characteristics of optoelectronic devices (LEDs, photodiodes, optocouplers) and select appropriate devices for optical isolation applications.
- 4 Analyze BJT, JFET, MOSFET, SCR, and TRIAC operation in switching and amplification circuits, applying DC load line analysis and biasing calculations.
- 5 Design and evaluate small-signal transistor amplifier circuits and operational amplifier configurations, calculating voltage gain, input/output impedance, and bandwidth.
- 6 Perform conversions between binary, octal, decimal, and hexadecimal number systems, apply signed binary arithmetic using 2's complement, and solve Boolean algebra expressions.
- 7 Design and minimize combinational logic circuits using truth tables, Boolean simplification, and Karnaugh Maps, and implement designs using standard gate ICs.
- 8 Analyze sequential logic circuits including SR, D, and JK flip-flops, and apply them to the design of registers, latches, and state machines.
- 9 Construct and test encoder, decoder, multiplexer, and A/D–D/A converter circuits, explaining the role of each in data conversion and digital communications systems.
- 10 Build and measure asynchronous/synchronous counter circuits and 555-based timer/oscillator circuits, calculating frequency, duty cycle, and RC time constants.
- 11 Demonstrate safe lab practices, accurate circuit construction on breadboards, and correct use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and function generators to troubleshoot electronic circuits.
